MLG is coming to the ATL
MLG is coming to our hometown: Atlanta! This Friday marks the kick-off MLG Atlanta 2017 and KontrolFreek is getting ready for the action. From Feb. 10 through Feb. 12, more than 170 teams from all over the world will converge at the Georgia World Conference Center to compete in the latest Call of Duty World League tournament. KontrolFreek will be live and on the ground all weekend so if you are here to see the competition, make sure you stop by our booth and say hi!
Now, since this event is taking place in our backyard, we felt we’d be remiss if we didn’t give you some insider tips about some great things to do around the city. If you have some free time between CWL matches or you’re just looking for something to do after the events, we have some suggestions for how you can make the most of your trip to the “city in the forest.” Take our word for it, we’ve been here for a while!
Georgia State Aquarium (.5 Miles from GWCC)
Did you know that Atlanta boasts the largest aquarium in the world? That’s right, and after you go see some amazing gameplay at the tournament, take a little trip down the road and you can go see a whale shark. Imagine the envy of your friends and family when you regale them with tales of your MLG Atlanta experience, rounded out with a whale shark…
World of Coke (.5 Miles from GWCC)
Atlanta is the birthplace of one of the world’s most iconic beverages. If you need some refreshment after an intense match, make sure to drop by World of Coke to learn about, and taste, the history of coke over the years and across the world. If you’ve ever wondered what Coke tasted like in the past or in other countries, this is the destination for you!
Krog Street Market (3 Miles from GWCC)
Looking for dinner in the city? Krog Street Market is right down the road from the tournament and offers some of the best restaurants in the city. From Tex-Mex to pork dumplings, and everything in between, Krog Street hosts several restaurants and shops so you can follow your nose to dinner you are looking for!
The Varsity (2 Miles from GWCC)
If you’re seeking cuisine of a faster nature, you can never go wrong with Atlanta’s famous burger joint, The Varsity. Just make sure you know what you want, because as soon as you step in line you are going to be hearing, “Wad’ya have?!”
The Beltline (3 Miles from GWCC)
If you are feeling a little overwhelmed, we suggest taking a little walk and getting some fresh air on the Beltine sidewalk. This beloved sidewalk connects several of Atlanta’s most iconic neighborhoods and gives you the chance to really see what all Atlanta has to offer. Direct access to shops, restaurants, and bars make the Beltline one of the best ways to experience the city.
Joystick Gamebar (2 Miles from GWCC)
It’s late, the last match is over, but you are still looking for a little entertainment and diversion. Joystick Gamebar is the place for you. Get yourself a tasty drink and challenge your friends to a game of Mortal Kombat, Rampage, Metal Slug, as well a long list of other arcade and board games!
These are just a few of the great things to do around Atlanta. If you’ve found some other great places or activities around the city, make sure to drop by our booth this weekend and let us know! See you at MLG Atlanta!
