Who's one of the most adorable characters in the entire world of video games? If you answered with Kirby, everyone's favorite pink puffball, you'd be correct. Kirby is one of the friendliest little balls of fluff you'll ever find when sifting through the lengthy catalog of gaming characters. Kirby's games follow suit, too. He's the star of gentle platformers chock-full of equally smile-inducing characters that aren't particularly challenging, but still contribute to a fun gameplay loop. It’s been some time since we had a full-fledged Kirby adventure, but the adorable little guy is back with a new game that’s even more open than ever before: Kirby and the Forgotten Land.

This is the Kirby series at its most aspirational, with a brand new, wild world for the fantastical pink vacuum-like creature to explore. It's set to touch down on Nintendo Switch on March 25, and it's going to bring a seriously fun time with it, whether you're a massive Kirby fan or a newcomer. There are some awesome new sights to see, as well as plenty of familiar gameplay to take in. Here's what you can expect from Kirby and the Forgotten Land when it drops this weekend.

Kirby's got a lot to contend with this time around. One day, he's plopping around minding his own business in Dream Land, taking a quick morning stroll. He jumps on a Warp Star for a nice jaunt around the world, and suddenly happens upon a huge mass of storm clouds. They're hiding something sinister: star-shaped vortexes that are sucking everything on the land up into them. Kirby tries to get away as fast as he can, as Waddle Dees on the ground are sucked up into the cyclones. Eventually Kirby runs into a tree on his Warp Star and is knocked out, sent flying into a vortex while unconscious.

When Kirby wakes up, he finds himself having been washed ashore in a strange new world. It looks almost like our world, overrun with plants and nature, with abandoned buildings and greenery covering everything, including a car. Of course, peace doesn't last long when Kirby wakes up and finds the car. He's attacked by a few enemies, and then realizes he has a new power: Mouthful Mode, thanks to the vortexes. He can now stretch his mouth over the car and control it!

That's right: Kirby can now use a special power that lets him control various objects. From the beginning of the game and what we've seen so far, we know Kirby can use Mouthful Mode to drive a car and jump over ramps. He can also use it to stretch over archways and glide around to attack enemies as well as control traffic cones to drill through pieces of terrain that he normally wouldn't be able to. There are a wide variety of attacks and defensive moves Kirby can perform with Mouthful Mode, but we'll have to wait and see until the game debuts for a look at all of the rest.

Kirby will need all of those abilities to help him out along the way, especially since he has a whole mess of Waddle Dees to rescue and a malevolent group of enemies called the Beast Pack to defeat. With the help of a small rodent-like creature known as Elfilin, Kirby will have to figure out how to conquer this odd new world that looks much like a post-apocalyptic version of our own.

In addition to the new set of Mouthful Mode abilities, Kirby can still use the same Copy Abilities he's always been able to. That includes Fire and Sword, both of which we've seen in other games throughout the Kirby universe. This time around, however, Kirby can go to Waddle Dee's Weapon Shop and level up his Copy Abilities and make them even more powerful.

Kirby will spend much of his time exploring, defeating enemies, and resting at the hub world of Waddle Dee Town. Here, Kirby will unlock a variety of different structures as he rescues additional Waddle Dees throughout the world, unlock goodies via collectible capsule items, and chat with the Wise Waddle Dee as well. There's a lot to unlock in Waddle Dee Town, so it's important to keep going out and looking for more of the little guys to build up the town -- and get to the bottom of what's going on.
