Controlling the Nemesis System
Shadow of Mordor introduced players to the Nemesis System, a game mechanic that allows for dynamic updates to your opponents that occur when you are killed or leave an area. If you are killed by a simple orc soldier, it’s likely that he will be promoted in the orc army to a captain. Captains can level up, continue to be promoted, and remember their past experiences with you. This system kept the game from getting stale, and it was immensely satisfying to face off against an orc captain you have a grudge against. Shadow of War brought the Nemesis System back into play with a few subtle changes. Your opponents still level up and remember your previous encounters, yet now you can make the Nemesis System work for you by applying it to Talion’s army.
If you happen to see a particular orc captain you would like on your side, there’s a way to game the Nemesis System a bit this time before you dominate him. Identify the orc you want to join your side and let him kill you a few times. This will get him promoted and you will get the most bang for your buck so to speak when you add him to your army. However, if you decide you would rather kill a captain rather than dominate him, make sure you issue a death threat before you take him on. This will make him more prepared to face you, but you will also increase the chance of getting some better loot.
These are just a few of the changes from Shadow of Mordor to Shadow of War highlighted in the Nemesis system. You can use these new features to make sure you are building the strongest army possible, while also maximizing your chance of getting the best loot. Let us know what your favorite new features are in Shadow of War, and keep gaming!
